The State Government of Tamil Nadu has announced that electric power consumption will be taken from the smart meters the next month!
TANGEDCO (Tamil; Nadu Generation and Distribution Company) has fixed static power consumption meters to read the power consumption of all domestic connections. The staff from TANGEDCO every once in 2 months take the consumption reading from these energy meters.
In this system, complaints have been faced such as the TANGEDCO staff taking readings on their timing instead of the scheduled time, delayed meter reading noting, etc. Due to this, TANGEDCO has been incurring huge losses.
As such, the State Government of Tamil Nadu has ordered TANGEDCO to install smart meters which would obviate the necessity for any person to go and take a reading from house to house.
In these smart meters, the procedure such as the date to take a reading of the consumption, the extent of consumption are recorded in form of software and would be linked to the respective server with telecommunication of relevant data.
In this scenario, under the ‘Smart Meter Plan’, the system of recording the consumption without any employee involvement as a personal visit will be implemented from tomorrow (Tuesday, 1st March).
The experiment, in the 1st Phase, is being undertaken in T Nagar in Chennai Metro City.
Smart meter reading will be undertaken gradually in all other areas as well in Chennai Metro City.
As such, it is gathered that henceforth, the system of monthly meter reading is likely to implement from the next month (March).
