There are many industries located at the SIPCOT Industrial Estate, Irungattukottai and the need for better power supply is high here.
Now, the owners of these industries are demanding Tangedco or Tamil Nadu Generation and Distribution Company for revamping electricity infrastructure for improving the power supply
After the relaxations in the lockdown norms by the Tamil Nadu government, this industrial estate has witnessed huge demand for power supply. It is a known fact that there are many micro, small and medium sized enterprises here that operate as an ancillary unit for big automotive firms. It is worthy to mention that the number of industrial owners did not have any complaints about deficiency on the power supply side. Nearly two decades back, the electricity infrastructure was installed here.
Last year, Tangedco grabbed many eyeballs when it installed new underground power cables in this industrial estate. It was later revealed by an industry owner that the manufacturing units required continuous power supply and for that reason the industrial units have associated with captive power generators. Old electricity lines have been responsible for the disruption in the power supply and there has been nil improvement at the substations too. To cope up with the tremendous growth of the industrial units in SIPCOT, the old electricity lines here have not been upgraded.
Point is that the units at the industrial park had supported SIPCOT in executing the civic development work. This included paving new roads and construction of SWD’s etc. This was according to some office bearers of SIMA.
