Chennai police would become more intelligent and the criminals can no longer escape!!
To identify the crime spots in Chennai, the police department belonging to Chennai is planning to implement a system of crime mapping using GIS or geographic information system. By this the police department intelligence would get better and data based accurate information regarding the crime and criminal would be available.
Mr. N. Kannan, additional commissioner of police (South), mentioned that the new system would help the police department to make use of the data and information to equip them with precision decision making intelligence. He then explained about 4 major factors like the nature of the crimes, place where it took place, time and criminal. Point is that these would be plotted on the map and the data would provide the necessary information to the police officer.
It is worthy to mention that the map would have data from the last 5 years, FIR details from CCTNS, CSR info from the police stations, call -data from the control rooms of emergency lines 100, 112, 1098, 1091 and 181. Inputs from Kavalan SOS mobile application would also be available in the map.
Criminal pattern and the method used for the crime would be studied using the data available. Technique termed as predictive analysis would be introduced by the new technology. By this, a police officer would be able to predict the crime even before the criminal commits crime. It is true that even after the release of the criminal from the jail the criminal would not drastically change their pattern and places of operation.
