The opening of a state-of-art robotic surgery operation theatre at the Chennai based Omandurar Government Multi-speciality Hospital has become the talk of the town now.

On Tuesday, 15th march 2022, the chief minister of Tamil Nadu grabbed many eyeballs when he inaugurated this facility at the Omandurar hospital. An amount of Rs 34.60 crores was spent for this purpose. Now, the surgeons would be able to do advanced laparoscopic operations in this hospital in Chennai.  It is now revealed that the new operation theatre would function as the Centre for Advanced Robotic Surgery.

The superb piece of information is that this robotic surgery centre would make the surgeons do tough surgeries with most precision by using robotic methods.

It was brought out by a doctor belonging to the department of general surgery at Omandurar Government hospital that if the organs were removed during surgery then flow of blood to the arteries must be controlled. He then spoke about how the nerve vessels must be protected while doing the surgeries to make sure that the weakened organ could be removed to prevent blood loss.

Information is that 3D enhancement would be needed to implement these in an effective manner and robotic surgeries would be highly beneficial. It is worthy to note that the arm of the surgeon could be rotated only for 120 degrees and by robotic surgery rotation up to 360 degrees would be possible. Exact vascular structure could be seen easily and surgery could be performed on that.

Various advantages of robotic surgeries are presence of small scars on the body, reduction in the blood loss, pain and infection. Less post-operative pain relief medications would only be required for the patient. It is true that those patients who have undergone major surgery would recover very fast and they could get discharged soon.
