Fantastic news!! Chess Olympiad to take place in Chennai!!

All the chess lovers in Chennai would now have a reason to rejoice!!
All India Chess Federation or AICF in its recent tweet has mentioned that the 44th edition of Chess Olympiad would take place in Chennai in this year 2022. In its Twitter handle the All India Chess Federation said ‘It’s official now... India will host the 44th World Chess Olympiad 2022 at Chennai’.
The chief minister of Tamil Nadu, Mr. M.K. Stalin expressed his happiness regarding the forthcoming World Chess Olympiad in Chennai. He tweeted that ‘delighted that chess capital of India is set to host the 44th Chess Olympiad’. Earlier, All India Chess Federation had submitted a guarantee of 10 million USD to FIDE. It must be taken into note that the Olympiad was moved out of Russia after it invaded its neighbouring nation Ukraine ON 24TH of February 2022. After Russia began the military operations against Ukraine, FIDE decided to open its bids.
Point to be noted is that earlier AICF had mentioned that it would bid for the Olympiad and the budget for the event would be about Rs 75 crores. It is sensational to note that Chess Olympiad is a biennial team event where teams from 190 countries fight for honours for a 2 week time period. From 26th July to 8TH August 2022, the Chess Olympiad was supposed to take place in Moscow.
There are also other events that are moved away from Russia and they are the first Chess Olympiad for people with disabilities and the 93rd FIDE Congress.
