Pallikaranai is an important locality in Chennai and an eco-park inaugurated here recently is making news now. It is now mentioned that the portion of the entrance of this park is being demolished to construct ramp and railing for differently abled persons.
Two weeks ago on Twitter, a person had pointed out an issue and it caught the attention of Supriya Sahu who is an additional chief secretary plus chairman of Pallikaranai conservation authority. She threw light on the instructions she gave to correct it immediately. It is now revealed that in another week the work would be completed and differently able persons would be able to use this eco-park. Truth is that all public buildings must be universally accessible.
Mr. Deepaknathan, differently able rights activist, on 15th March 2022 pointed out in Twitter about the eco-park not having facility for differently able persons as the park had only steps but no ramps He had also tweeted that he wanted to go inside the eco-park but was unable to go as it had steps only. It was amazing to mention that his tweet touched many hearts and he got more than 900 likes and 200 re-tweets. Many people supported the feelings of Deepak Nathan.
Yesterday, 25th March he tweeted once again conveying his happiness regarding the steps taken to sort out the problem of differently able persons. It was brought to light by the district forest officer Priyadarshini that there were many differently able friendly initiatives waiting. She hinted that the present 1.7km eco-park might be extended to 5km. It must be taken into account that many nearby localities adjoining Pallikaranai want a similar eco-park now. It is learnt that a survey has been going on to identify suitable locations for eco-development without obstructing the water inflow into the lake. It is superb to mention that every new facility proposed would be friendly for the differently abled persons.
