Getting cooking butter from the Aavin parlours is very difficult now for the residents belonging to Chennai. From 43lakh litres to 32lakh litres, Aavin’s daily milk procurement has fallen now and due to this there has been a reduction in the butter production. Many complaints were made by the Chennai residents regarding the unavailability of Aavin’s butter.
A resident from Mylapore spoke about how this has been going on for the last 10 days and how butter was unavailable at the Aavin counter. The date from which butter would be available was also not known. When compared to 50 packs per day, now Aavin parlour is getting just 5 to 10 packs and this was as per a person who is running Aavin franchise outlet. He then highlighted that the customers were becoming desperate and they must be given importance. For improving the supplies, Aavin has been requested also.
It was mentioned by some sources that milk procurement by Aavin has fallen steeply and this has led to reduction in the production of butter. It is noteworthy that over 28.5 lakh litres of milk was sold as milk and the rest 1.5lakh litres per day for other purposes.
According to a retired person from Aavin it was clear that the season has been lean and the production of milk has been affected. He then explained how the private diaries have poached Aavin’s milk pouring farmers. Point is that the cooperation has not taken steps to bring these farmers back to fold. In the past, it was usual to witness Aavin keeping 2500 tonnes of butter and 3500 tonnes of skimmed milk powder as a buffer for a period of 3 months and now this has been reduced. It is now revealed that Aavin was not able to rebuild due to reduction in the milk procurement.
