There is ample evidence available now to show that the Coronavirus infection has reduced to a huge extent in Chennai.

It is now revealed that in as many as in 10 GCC zones the number of active Covid-19 cases has gone below 10. It is sensational that Ambattur zone has got just a single active case and it has not reported any new cases in the last one week.

North Chennai zones like Manali, Madhavaram and Thiru Vi- Ka- Nagar zones etc have just 2 active cases each now. In south Chennai, Adyar zone has got the highest number of active cases with 21 and Teynampet has got 19 active cases now. Point is that no street in Chennai has more than 10 active cases now and twenty streets have 3 to 6 cases only.  There are no fresh Coronavirus cases in 85% of the wards in Chennai and 12 more wards recorded new cases in single digits only.

For those who are due to get their second vaccination dose, SMS is being sent by the Chennai Corporation. This was as per Dr. M. Jagadeesan, city health officer. He added that volunteers have been doing their follow up work by going door-to-door and bringing those who are due for the second vaccination doses.

Information gathered is that till now 5581336 persons have been administered with the first vaccination dose and that was almost 100% of the eligible population. As many as 4473285 persons have been administered with the second vaccination dose and that was 80% of the eligible.

Weekend vaccination programmes must be used by the persons who haven’t yet received the vaccinations. This was pointed out by GCC commissioner Mr. Gagandeep Singh Bedi. He explained that 1600 camps would be conducted across Chennai in the street corners and in the busy places and the residents must make use of this.
