The SWD or storm water drain works have been inspected by the chief minister of TN, Mr. M.K. Stalin yesterday. The work would be speeded up by the Chennai Corporation as per the instruction issued by the chief minister.
It is worth mentioning here that the chief minister inspected the banks of Kosasthalaiyar River where the restoration of bund works is expected to begin at a cost of Rs 15 crores.
In Manali and in Tiruvottiyur, the GCC has taken up the SWD work at a cost of Rs 94.98 crores and Rs 7.67 crores respectively. Yesterday, the chief minister visited these 2 important zones in north Chennai too.
To avoid flooding in the monsoon season, works would be taken up in the Kosasthalaiyar basin and at other water logging places under the World Bank Fund. It was highlighted by a government release that in the previous monsoon season floods created many issues in Manali New Town, Danalakshmi Nagar, Vadivudai Amman Nagar etc. The water logging due to heavy rains in the monsoon season has affected many residents belonging to Kannan Street, Ekambaram Street etc in Korukkupet. This was as per some residents.
It is noteworthy that SWD of length 1.23km is under construction at a cost of Rs 3.50 crores. Information gathered is that WRD has planned to take up several works including strengthening of a bund of 4km near Edayanchavadi and Manali New Town. Point to be noted is that after the completion of these works nearly 30lakhs people in flood prone places would get benefited.
