Literacy rate to improve in the state of Tamil Nadu!!
It is not easy to provide education to everybody in a state but the TN government would be making a huge effort. In the future, in the state of Tamil Nadu, there would be a 100% literacy rate. For this to become a reality, the state would be implementing a new adult education scheme at a cost of Rs 10 crores.
The shocking piece of information is that in Tamil Nadu nearly 4.80lakhs of people above the age of 15 cannot read or write. This was according to a senior officer belonging to the school education department. In identified blocks in several districts in TN, more than 2000 adult education centres would be set up. It must be noted that later all the remaining learners would be covered before March 2023.
The TN government would introduce new adult education programmes through the Directorate of Non-Formal and Adult education. This would be done to eradicate illiteracy in the state of Tamil Nadu. The main aim of this new adult education scheme would be to provide basic literacy and numeracy to all illiterate adults. The neo literates would be able to continue their education beyond the basics.
It is known that TN State has been implementing adult education programmes in several ways. Training in vocational skills would be provided to the people and by this their earning capacity would be made better. This would improve their standards of living also.
The senior officer from the school education department later spoke about how TN government has allotted Rs 9.83 crores for the new scheme. This scheme would help the neo-literates for lifelong learning and continuing education. It would be possible for the learners to participate in the classes on Kalvi TV for continuing their literacy programme. It is learnt that under the new scheme the current lecturers on Kalvi TV channel would be improved for the sake of better learning.
Point is that the programme timings would be extended on TV. All the topics that haven’t been covered in general at the schools would be covered in the new adult education scheme. It must be taken into note that various topics like religion, family planning and politics would be discussed with the adults.
The school education department official concluded that the state literacy award to the best learner and literacy centres consists of an appreciation certificate, memento and medals etc.
