At all the health units, the government agency, directorate of public health did cross-sectional study and the study covered 2855 adults in 95 clusters to assess the prevalence and reasons for vaccine hesitancy. The study was published in the recent edition of TN Journal of Public Health and Medical Research.
It is worthy to note that more than 80percent of people who did not get vaccinated for Covid-19 mentioned that they would not get the infection. Forty eight percent of people skipped vaccinations because they were scared to take it. This was per the study of the directorate of public health.
It must be taken into account that 12percent of people who get vaccinated in the future and more than 80percent got vaccinated to prevent infection. Nearly 12% have stated that they were forced to get vaccinated at workplaces and 4% were forced by their friends and 3% due to their travel. It was mentioned by Dr. T.S. Selvavinayagam, director of public health said that lack of company, distance and long queues etc were the reasons why many persons did not get vaccinated. The study was authored by Dr. T.S. Selvavinayagam and team of specialists at Institute of Community Health in MMC Chennai.
It was concluded by the study that the unvaccinated persons not only put themselves at risk of getting Covid-19 infection but also the lives of others around them. It is true that mega vaccination camps and door-to-door vaccinations several issues have been addressed now. Fact is that even now 37lakhs people in Chennai haven’t yet received even a single vaccination dose.
