Balamurugan has been working as a salesman in the ration shop No 31. Madurai cooperative society registrar had come to the shop for inspection at Pudhu Chokkampatti. He found out there was a weight reduction in the rice supplied to the consumer. Sparks flew over this issue and Balamurugan was assaulted by the registrar. Balamurugan while speaking about this mentioned that he mistook that I was reducing 2kilos of rice when supplying 20 kilos of rice to the consumers. Because of this he attacked me. The employees went on flash strike and also demanded the suspension of the registrar. 700 ration shops in and around the area went on strike on Thursday.

The ration shop workers` union executives held talks with the District Revenue Officer Ravindran. The District Supply Officer Lata, Cooperative Department deputy registrars Marisvaran (regular) and Tiruvalluvan (Potuviniyokam) convinced the employees who were involved in the conflict. Following this, the ration shops were opened on Thursday afternoon.
