If you come to know that around 1.2lakhs of students have not appeared for board examinations in TN in 2022, then what will be your reaction? Shocked isn’t it!!

Yes. Truth is that around 1.2lakhs of students belonging to the classes 10.11 and 12 did not write board exams this year. This has surprised and shocked many.  Before the lockdown was announced, board exams were conducted and around 80000 students did not appear for the board exams.

According to a senior officer belonging to the school education department it was clear that in the Coronavirus pandemic unprecedented 188487 students dropped out and were later identified and enrolled in age appropriate classes from standards 1 to 12. Around twenty six lakhs students should have written board exams this year but 1.3lakhs were absent.

It must be noted that for class 10 43000 students were absent and for class 11 exams little above 44000 students were absent. For class 12 board exams, 33000 students were absent this year.

The senior official then highlighted that the exams were conducted earlier in the pandemic and district education officers along with teachers would be carrying out door-to-door surveys through a new mobile app that has been developed for this work especially. This new app would be integrated with the EMIS portal or education management information system of the school education department linking students, parents with school teachers etc. Point is that the survey report would be sent to the collector. Final report would be obtained from the data collected from several reports.

The authorities of the school education department would look into the reasons for students absent from writing board examinations and then would make them appear for the board exams in June or July month. By this, these students would be able to get back to their education mainstream.
