What is the use of having a multi-level parking facility when vehicles are parked on the roads and streets?
Many Chennai residents use their own vehicles and they park their vehicles in an unruly manner on the roads. To avoid this issue, several multi-level parking projects have been proposed earlier by GCC in Chennai. The news that has come out now is that GCC has dropped its plans regarding other multilevel parking projects etc that were proposed in several places in Chennai. .It is now clear that in Nungambakkam, there won’t be a multi-level parking project.
In Thirumalai Pillai Road in T. Nagar inspite of the presence of multi-level parking facilities available the vehicles are parked on the streets and roads only creating few issues. It was confirmed by an official belonging to GCC that the proposals taken for multi-level parking have been dropped now.
He threw light on how earlier a land was identified for the sake of a multi-level parking facility at Uthamar Gandhi Road in Nungambakkam. He added that the land was used as a shed for the battery operated vehicles now for conservancy works.
It must not be forgotten that GCC had proposed off-road parking facilities in Chennai by constructing multi-level car parking. This was supposed to be implemented under the private-public partnership at a cost of Rs 2000 crores. A consultant was also appointed to identify land parcels for this car parking facility and he had identified 40 locations as land parcels.
According to the official belonging to GCC, all the proposed multi-level parking facility projects have been dropped but Broadway multi-modal transportation hub with parking facility would be implemented. This project has been taken up by CMRKL or Chennai Metro Rail Limited.
Earlier, a multi-level car parking facility was proposed to be constructed in Vadapalani and now this would also be dropped.
