Who said the work of the government school teachers in Tamil Nadu is easy?
Gone are the days when a job of government school teacher was considered as an easy one and many preferred school teaching jobs for this reason. Times have changed and now these teachers have to do lots of other work apart from their main work that is teaching. For the last several months, teachers at various government schools in TN have been working tirelessly. Many teachers are unhappy regarding the non-teaching work they have to do in the schools. This has led to severe stress in many government school teachers.
It is well known that all Tamil Nadu government run schools would reopen on 13th June 2022 and this was as per the school education department. Teaching the students after the Covid-19 lockdown was very difficult and this was according to a middle school teacher belonging to Vellore district.
The teacher then spoke about how the students have been affected mentally and financially due to the Coronavirus pandemic and how huge efforts have been taken by the teachers to make the students pay attention to them.
Truth is that after schools reopened last year, the teachers have been working continuously and tirelessly to help the students community. The teacher concluded that the physical exams that were conducted recently and how due to this the teachers were forced to rush through the syllabus.
It was later brought out by a higher secondary school teacher that the school education department must reduce the burden of the teachers by reducing the non-teaching work. She expressed her happiness about the schools that would be closed on Saturdays.
Answer sheets evaluation is a tedious work and before 20th May 2022 itself teachers of primary and middle schools have finished evaluation work. Higher secondary school teachers would be doing the answer sheets evaluation work till 10th of June. It is true that the primary and middle school government teachers are not enjoying summer vacations like the students but they are very busy in several training courses or canvassing process etc.
It was mentioned by Mr. P.K. Illamaran, Tamil Nadu Teachers Association president that teachers must do teaching only. He added that for the last 4 months teachers have been working even on Saturdays to complete the syllabus within the given time. It is noteworthy that most of the teachers have been involved in training courses.
