By December 2022, North Chennai Thermal Power Station or NCTPS would be ready for public use and this was mentioned yesterday by Mr. Senthi Balaji, minister for electricity. He was busy inspecting the work that has been going on at this thermal station. In 2010, the work on NCTPS began and it was supposed to be finished by 2019 itself. Truth is that the current chief minister of TN Mr. M.K. Stalin has expedited the work and around 83% has been over.
In September 2022, a trial run would be conducted and then in the month of December the new thermal power plant would be inaugurated in north Chennai by the chief minister.
It is sensational to mention here that this NCTPS would be the state of Tamil Nadu’s first 800MW single unit. This new thermal plant would consume less coal than other thermal plants. Airborne coal dust is an usual issue with thermal plants and it is brought out that this new thermal plant in north Chennai would not have this issue. For this, special equipment has been installed to avoid airborne coal dust.
The daily power demand in TN has increased from 14500 MW to 16500 MW and Tamil Nadu’s industrial base has developed now. The upgrading of electricity infrastructure was the need of the hour. In the next 5 years, the TN government would add a capacity of 6220 MW to the grid.
The state of TN has handled the coal crisis better when compared to other states in India. This was carried out by importing coal at $ 137 at the lowest price. Inside 4 months, work on solar power projects with a generating capacity of 4000 MW would begin. Yesterday during the inspection, Tangedco chairman and MD Mr. Rajesh Lakhoni and various other officers also made their presence felt.
