An accident was averted at the Tuticorin airport on Sunday, as a Spice Jet airline’s rear landing gear did not open as the flight descended.
‘It was fortunate that there was no damage to the aircraft. All the passengers were immediately evacuated from the aircraft and taken to safety… The flight landed faster than the normal speed and suffered minor damage in the tail portion.
‘The Spicejet flight landed at the airport around 8.40am. With the landing gear failing, the aircraft`s tail hit the tarmac. The stricken aircraft dragged along the runway for some distance before coming to a halt. The jet had to be towed to the hanger. The flight did not suffer any major damage and that the 46 passengers on board the aircraft were safe.
‘It was a minor accident and the rear part of the aircraft suffered some damage in the impact. The airport authorities have told us that it would be set right soon’, said sources.
