It is a long-continuing tradition for the devotees to undertake ‘Girivalam’ (a walk around the bottom of the temple) on the Pournami (Full Moon) day at the Thiruvannamalai (temple of Lord Arunachaleswarar).
Devotees from other districts from the State of Tamil Nadu visit Thiruvannamalai on the Full Moon day and undertake ‘Girivalam’!
Some of the devotees strictly adhere to the routine of visiting Thiruvannamalai on every Full Moon day!
Tens of thousands of devotees visit by buses and cars!
On this occasion, the Villupuram Government Transport Corporation has arranged special buses to Thiruvannamalai to facilitate the devotees.
Girivalam undertaking is scheduled on 13th July.
Special buses are arranged for this.
500 special buses are to operate from Chennai Koyambedu, Tambaram, Kanchipuram, Villupuram, Thiruvannamalai, Vellore, Arcot, Aarani, and Puducherry.
An official from the Transport Corporation shared this: “As Girivalam is undertaken on 13th July, it is planned to run special buses to Thiruvannamalai. On this day, additional buses will be run from the morning to the evening! We appeal to the devotees to avail of this facility to the maximum extent!”a
