We all would have come across furniture made from wood but does anyone know that furniture can also be made from husk? Sounds incredible right!!
It is true that furniture can also be made from husk. The Chennai based company Indowud NFC was started just 3 years back and now it is making many heads turn. It was mentioned by Priyanka Kucheria, marketing head of Indowud NFC that the company has been making furniture out of husk and no wood has been used. She hinted that principles of AHIMSA are being followed by her company and due to that no trees have been cut, no forests destroyed and most importantly no living beings have been harmed. Mr. B.L. Bengani was the person behind the development of this unique Chennai based company.
The agricultural husks are mixed with natural minerals plus PVC is also being used to provide resistance to decay. Truth is that PVC would prevent fungal attacks and rotting and the furniture made would be termite proof and UV resistant also. For creating a sustainable green product which is first ever in India, Indowud has been awarded Green pro-ecolabel by GENICS. It is known that GENICS is GEN`s internationally coordinated eco-labelling system.
Mr. Bengani expressed his thoughts about this Indowud NFC. He spoke about how the issue of global warming has been creating imbalance in every living being present on Earth. He added that to change this situation he wanted to do something that would help the Earth. Rice husks were considered to make furniture. It must be taken into account that Mr. Bengani was unhappy regarding husks being wasted in huge quantities. This made him think about making furniture from husk. This would increase the revenue of the farmers too.
The reason why Indowud is different from normal wood is that Indowud is flexible and can be moulded into any shape as required. It is now said that architects would have flexibility to design their imagination into any shape they desire. Point is that the Indowud furniture is flame retardant, termite proof, water proof and anti-bacterial etc. This was according to Priyanka Kucheria.
