To cater many office goers in Chennai, Chennai Metropolitan Rail Limited or CMRL is having plans to run a direct train between Chennai Central and Koyambedu through Anna Salai.
It was confirmed by some officers belonging to CMRL that the possibility of running direct trains from stations along the Inner Ring Road to stations located in Anna Salai is being explored. It is known fact that currently the passengers change trains at Alandur
The sensational pieces of information is that when the new plan come into effect then the passengers would be able to board trains in places like Koyambedu, Vadapalani etc and could travel directly to places like Guindy, Saidapet, Teynampet, Nandanam in Anna Salai etc without the need to change trains at Alandur.
It is known that the phase 1 project belonging to CMRL of about 45kms has 2 corridors. Corridor 1 is from Washermenpet to the airport of 23kms and corridor 2 from Central to St Thomas Mount is 21.96 kms. According to the CMRL officer, many officer goers travel from localities like Vadapalani, Ashok Nagar etc to their offices in places like Guindy, Nandanam, Teynampet. AG-DMS etc on Anna Salai.
These commuters would have to change trains at Alandur. To avoid this, CMRL has been thinking about operating direct trains. He concluded that a study and inspections to know about the feasibility of this is being done.
The frequency of metro trains along some stretches would become less if this new plan of CMRL comes into effect and this was mentioned by some sources. It must be noted that the new plan of CMRL must have a clear announcement system as well as passenger information display system and these must instruct the passengers clearly. If clear instructions were not issued then the passengers would get confused.
