The Chennai Metro Rail Company has decided to complete all the pending construction activities in the Chennai Washermanpet-Wimco Nagar Section.
In this regard to expedite the balance of construction work, new contractors have been appointed!
In the First Phase of the Chennai Metro Rail construction and its extension, the construction work in the section Washermanpet-Wimco Nagar covering a distance of 9.051 km has been extended from last February.
In this section, there are Metro Stations at Theagaraya College, Tondiarpet, New Washermanpet, Singa Chavadi (Toll Gate), Kaladippettai, Thiruvotriyur, Theradi, Wimco Nagar, and Wimco Nagar Workshop and the service for the public started even as the construction of the only 2 entrance gates were completed and 2 more pending!
This decision was taken giving priority to the public needs!
Though there are plans to expedite and complete the balance work of the 2 entrance gates for the Metro Stations, various factors such as the onset of the coronavirus pandemic, shortage of workforce, etc., the construction progress was rather very slow!
The former contract agency completed its part and went away! As such, the balance construction work in all the 9 Metro Rail Stations, such as sectionalising, tiling work on the floors, the other work for passengers` facilities, and vehicle-parking space, etc., remained uncompleted!
Appointment of New Contractor
To expedite and complete the above balance construction work, a new contractor has been appointed and the work progress is galvanised.
With this development, the senior officials of the Chennai Metro shared that the balance work will be expedited and completed before December!
