Till now, many senior citizens have been travelling in the trains in India using the concessions that are being provided to them. The latest news that has come out is that the concessions won`t be there for these elder people hereafter.
The Central government has informed that it is not interested to continue the concession that is being provided for the senior citizens travelling in the trains. It is noteworthy that for travelling in the trains a concession of 40percent is being issued for those men above the age of 60 and a concession of 50% is being given for women above the age of 58.
The minister for railways Mr. Ashwini Vaishnav spoke about how various concessions that are being provided for senior citizens has been creating huge financial loss for the railways department.
He threw light about how in 2020 when Coronavirus pandemic lockdown was implemented. From then onwards, 50% concessions provided to the senior citizens have been stopped. Concessions provided for sports persons were also stopped. In 2019-2020, there was a revenue loss of Rs 1667 crores for the railways department. He concluded that since the railways department has been facing issues the concessions would not continue for the senior citizens.
