Hereafter, Chennai residents must dispose of construction waste only at those specified areas in the zones!!

The news is that those residents under the Greater Chennai Corporation must dispose of their construction waste generated in small quantities only at 15 designated areas belonging to the 15 zones of GCC. It must be noted that the violators would be penalised according to Solid Waste Management Rules 2016 and Sub-rules 2019.

In the public places, those who dump less than 1tonne construction waste would be imposed a penalty of Rs 2000 to Rs 5000.

Below mentioned are the details of the sites meant for the disposal of low generation construction waste.

  • Thiruvottiyur Buckingham Canal Road, Sattangad, Thiruvottiyur
  • Manali Kamaraj Road Manali( near zonal office 2)
  • Madhavaram CMDA near Truck Terminal, Night Shelter , Behind Madhavaram bus terminus
  • Tondiarpet North Avenue Road, Mahakavi Bharthi Nagar, Vyasarpadi
  • Royapuram Livestock Depot (Area), Avadhana Papaya Road, Choolai ( opp to Chennai Corporation School)
  • DRVK Nagar Jamalia (Old Lorry Stand) Perambur Highway
  • Ambattur Manickam Pillai Street Ambattur
  • Anna Nagar First Main Road, Shenoy Nagar ( Near Gajalakshmi Colony)
  • Teynampet Lloyd`s Colony ( Near Corporation ITI Institute)
  • Kodambakkam Gurisiva Street SM. Block Jafferkhanpet Kodambakkam ( near R10  MGR police station)
  • Valasaravakkam Junction of Natarajan Road and Bharathi Road (near Ramapuram Lake)
  • Alandur Krishna Nagar Main Road (near Othawadai Mayanabhoomi)
  • Adyar Velachery Mayanabhoomi on Velachery Main Road (near Gurunanak College)

It must be noted that those who generate more than 20 metric tonnes of construction waste (Bulk Waste Generators) must send their construction waste to re-use centres at places like Perungudi and Kodungaiyur etc. Point to be noted is that permission to the dumping of construction waste would be issued only when an appropriate fee amount has been paid to the treasury of GCC.

Every day at 15 GCC zones in Chennai, an average of 750 metric tonnes of construction waste is being collected. A penalty amount of Rs 2737119 has been collected from those who have dumped their construction waste in public places from January to June 2022.
