Many students are studying in the classes 9 to 12 in various government as well as government aided schools in the state of Tamil Nadu. It is now said that assessment of these students would be enhanced this year. During the lockdown due to the Coronavirus pandemic, all the schools carried out assessments of the students in the last 2 years.
Through Tamil Nadu State Council for Educational Research and Training or SCERT, an assessment cell was established. At the periodic levels, each student outcome was recorded and analysed to design remedial changes for the sake of quality learning. This was mentioned by a senior officer belonging to the school education department. He then threw light about how the contents of school textbooks have been designed into a taxonomy document that is mapped with all topics, concepts etc.
Questions for the students of classes 9 to 12 are developed by the teachers in TN and these are then curated through 32 district institutes of education and training or DIET.
Hi-labs have been established in the government and government aided schools in TN and the curated questions are sent to these hi-labs. To improve the learning of the students, the assessment process would be enhanced in TN. The students could be assessed faster by simplification of the assessment process.
It is noteworthy that the assessments would be done through these hi-labs for class 9 on Monday, for class10 on Tuesday, for class11 on Wednesday and Thursday and for class12 on Friday and Saturday. Information gathered is that the assessment data would be sent to SCERT for compilation and then remedial measures would be taken based on the performance of the students. For slow learning students, ways to improve the classroom session would be taken up. Point is that teachers in the state develop a new syllabus of questions for these students.
