The Department of School Education of the State Government of Tamil Nadu has introduced a new scheme – `Letters & Numbers` (Ennum Ezhuthum in Tamil)!
This new scheme will enable all children under 8 years of age to get the basic skill in mathematics and to write in any language without errors! Once implemented, this goal will be realized before the year 2025!
For this purpose, the children have been given some special exercise books, known as Arumbu, Mottu, and Malar (Seedling, bud, and flower).
As such, presently, the lessons are being taught to the children by this system!
As the teaching is done through games and exercises, students can learn and understand easily and quickly!
Though this new system is welcomed, there were complaints from some teachers that there are some issues to be resolved in the implementation of the scheme!
The complaint was that this system is better only for the `slow-learning` students! But the `fast-learning` intelligent students will get stagnated!
Further, demands were made that the syllabus must be changed for the students who go to the 4th Standard after studying by `Ennum Ezhuthum` system!
As such, information is gathered that the State Government of Tamil Nadu is carrying out some changes in the syllabus for the 4th & 5th Standards and also in the teaching and learning methods!
The School officials shared on this issue, " This new teaching/learning scheme, Ennum Ezhuthum, has shown remarkable improvement in the learning skill of the sstundets> As such, when the 3rd and 4th Standard students going to the next class may find it difficult if the old system has flowed in the 5th Standard!
The teaching should be oriented on the learning skills of the students. So, we are reviewing the necessity to revise the syllabus for the 4th & 5th Standard syllabus!
We intend to seek feedback/suggestions from the primary school teachers! Reviewing all these input data, the new learning system for the 5th Standard will be set in the next academic year"
