Having a close view of the Marina Beach by going near the ocean is a fantastic experience!!

Marina Beach in Chennai is for everyone and any person can go near the ocean and have fun safely without any restriction. Till now, persons with physical issues have been finding it difficult to go near the ocean in the Marina Beach. This issue won`t be there anymore.

Next month, the Chennai Corporation would complete the pathway for the differently able persons here. By the third week of September, the work would get over and the Greater Chennai Corporation Commissioner Mr. Gagandeep Singh Bedi has instructed the officials regarding this.

From the Marina Beach service road to high tide line, a ramp has been built for265 metres at the beach. As of now, more than 70% of the work has been completed. Information is that the ramp has been constructed using 3 types of woods and it would be of width of 3metres.

It was later mentioned by some GCC officials that a group of differently able persons visited the beach and they suggested some improvements too. New toilet facilities plus a space for storage of their belongings was suggested by them.

On the service road near Vivekanandar Illam, GCC would be constructing new toilets for the differently abled persons. It is learnt that 3 types of woods like babul wood, red maradi and ipe wood would be used for various things like ramps, side hand rails and floorings etc.

In September month, CRZ would be issuing clearance for the ramp on the famous Elliot`s Beach in Besant Nagar. Next month, GCC would begin the work on constructing ramps and it would get over in 4 months. The superb piece of information is that GCC would develop more infrastructures for the differently abled persons on the beaches.

Construction of the ramp was fantastic for the differently able persons and it was a great example of both GCC as well as stakeholders working in partnership for ensuring last mile accessibility to the differently able persons. It is well known that these differently able persons have been longing to go near the ocean. This was according to Vaishnavi Jayakumar, Member of the Differently able Rights Alliance.

She spoke about how the path was just a beginning and how it would be incomplete without allied facilities like containers for beach wheelchairs, MobiMats, booth personnel to help, life jackets, WaterWheels, ocean ramps, smart poles with CCTV etc.
