From 350 year old palm leaf manuscripts, a new version of Agathiyar Gunavagadam transcripted!! Sound`s Incredible right!!
The news that has emerged out now is that NIS or National Institute of Siddha situated at Tambaram Sanatorium has released a revised version of Agathiyar Gunavagadam, a Siddha pharmacology work.
It is important to note that Mr. V. Ramesh the grandson of Vaidyar Venugopala Pillai has been having the manuscripts and these were transcripted by Vidwan Dr. N. Srinivasan. A person named Dr. T. Thirunarayan and his team members a few years back. The printed version was also checked by the experts. It was brought out by the director of NIS Dr. N. Meenakumari that the book was released recently by the Union minister of Ayush Mr. Sarbananda Sonowal.
Traditional vaidyars from Tamil Nadu and from neighbouring states were approached by Dr. Thirunarayan and his team to get manuscripts and to preserve the manuscripts safely. The shocking piece of information is that while publishing the book, Dr. Thirunarayan passéd away.
What is amazing about this new version of Agathiyar Gunavagam is that the new version provided additional information about treating more diseases with the help of already existing Siddha medicines. Fact is that Agathiyar Gunavagm dealt with Sidha pharmacology of herbs, metals, minerals etc.
