Several Chennai localities like Thiruvottriyur, Tondiarpet, Broadway, Arumbakkam, Ekkattuthangal and Pallavaram etc received heavy rains with strong winds today. This has resulted in water stagnation and disruption in the vehicles movement in many places. It has been forecasted by Regional Meteorological Centre or RMC that there would be thunderstorms with rains in Chennai city and in many districts belonging to TN.
There would be light to moderate rains with thunderstorms in 33 districts belonging to TN and these include Chennai, Tiruvallur, Kancheepuram, Chengalpet, Cuddalore, Villupuram, Krishnagiri, Thirupathur, Dharmapuri, Vellore, Ranipet, Salem, Karur, Namakkal, Thiruvannamalai and Kallalurichi.
For the next 3 days, heavy rains have been predicted in many districts belonging to Tami Nadu by RMC. These include The Nilgiris, Coimbatore, Tirupur, Theni, Dindigul, Erode, Krishnagiri, Dharmapuri and Salem etc . Till Monday, the fishermen have been asked not to go into the sea.
It is said that squally winds of speeds of 40kmph to 50kmph gusting to 60kmph would prevail over Comorin area in Kanniyakumari, Gulf of Mannar, Coastal Tamil Nadu, Coastal Sri Lanka & adjoining SW Bay of Bengal. According to weather bloggers, there might be heavy rains along the coast line. Chennai and its suburbs might receive heavy rains for the next few hours with cloudy skies.
