Gone are the days when a big building gets constructed in Chennai and in the state of TN without proper sewage treatment plant etc!!

A new order has been issued by TNPCB or Tamil Nadu Pollution Control Board and according to the order for the buildings constructed by the public on built-in area of more than 2000 sq ft the public must get approval from the board compulsorily.

The main objective behind this was to make sure the buildings constructed would have sewage treatment plants and untreated sewage does not get discharged into the water bodies and storm water drains leading to pollution.

According to the order from TNPCB it was clear that all the building construction projects including multi-storey apartments, IT parks and commercial establishments etc  having built-up areas of more than 20000 sq ft should get consent to operate from Tamil Nadu Pollution Control Board.

It added that those persons who have already got consent from TNPCB must renew it without fail and must operate the facility after getting consent.

Point to be noted is that for the residential apartment complexes owners association must apply for approval from TNPCB and must get it renewed regularly. To meet the required standards, STP should be maintained and operated efficiently.

It was brought out by the order from TNPCB that the treated sewage must be recycled and it must be sued for gardening and tree plantations etc.

To monitor the treated sewage quality and connect it to CPCB and TNPCB`s Water Quality Water Server, OCEMS or Online Continuous Effluent Quality Monitoring System must be provided.

Surprise inspections:

It is learnt that the officers belonging to TNPCB would be conducting surprise inspections of the multi-storey apartment buildings, IT parks and commercial establishments etc. Strict action like closing the premises would be carried out in case any violations were found during the inspections.
