Fantastic decision taken by the Corporation now regarding the prevention of Rabies - ABC for 2000 dogs etc

The deadly Rabies has been causing huge concern for many in the state of Tamil Nadu. In the last few months, several deaths have been reported due to dog bites. It is well known that rabies spreads through the bite of dogs. Now, Vellore Corporation has taken a fantastic decision to prevent rabies.  

Soon, as manya as 4000 stray dogs would be vaccinated by the corporation and this would be done to eradicate rabies totally in Vellore. This was mentioned by mr. S. Ashok kumar, Commissioner of the Vellore Corporation.

The commissioner later spoke about how in the Vellore town enumeration of a total of 15,000 stray dogs was done and of which animal birth control treatment or ABC treatment was given to as many as 11,000 stray dogs. This included vaccination against rabies also.

Non-governmental organisations registered with the SPCA or Society for Prevention of Cruelty to Animals would be doing the above mentioned work and it would be carried out in the veterinary unit located near the Muthu Mandapam on the banks of River Palar. This veterinary unit has not been in use for quite sometime now due to the Coronavirus pandemic.

Work on catching the stray dogs would begin soon as the Corporation council has sanctioned Rs 33 lakhs to provide ABS for 2000 dogs at the rate of Rs 1650 per dog, with3 day animal care including the anti-rabies vaccine etc. This was brought out by the commissioner.

Mr. Navaneetha Krishnan, JD, animal husbandry department highlighted that on Wednesday(International anti-rabies day ), the department has planned to provide anti-rabies vaccine for as many as 6000 animals. This would include the household pets in the districts of Vellore, Ranipet and Thirupathur etc. In all these 3 districts, vaccination would be provided at the hospitals and at the veterinary dispensaries etc.
