On Friday, 7th October 2022, the work to construct a limited use subway between Washermenpet and Korukkupet stations at Bhojaraja Nagar in wards 52 and 53 in Royapuram zone began. The level crossing at 11A would be skipped with the help of this subway that is being constructed to connect Bojaraja Nagar and Kanan Street.
The work was inaugurated by Mr. K.N. Nehru, minister for Municipal Administration and Water Supplies, Mr. Sekhar Babu, Hindu Religious and Charitable Endowments minister and Chennai Mayor R. Priya.
It is noteworthy that the subway would be of total length of 207m and 37m would be constructed by railways and the rest 170m by GCC at a total cost of Rs 20 crores.For the work, GCChas given Rs 6.6 cr for the railways and it would spend Rs 13.4crores to build subway and service roads sanctioned under the Capital Grants Fund. On 9th May 2022, the municipal administration and water supplies department gave administrative sanction for construction.
