High blood pressure or hypertension is a serious issue and If not treated  we might get heart attacks, strokes, kidney damage etc. It is worth mentioning here that high BP of more than 140/90 mm of mercury could be managed by making some changes in our lifestyle. Many of us know factors such as obesity, smoking, drinking alcohol, family history etc could, elad to Bp. Not many of us know that high BP can also occur in us due to some unknown reasons also.

Various abnormal or unexpected reasons that can lead to high blood pressure in us are

Low levels of vitamin D:

It is well known to us that vitamin D deficiency would lead to hair loss and  weak bones etc. What many of us might not know is that it could also lead to high blood pressure. The calcium homeostasis in our body would get disturbed due to low levels of vitamin D and this is linked to insulin resistance and systemic inflammation etc. It was brought to light by research that  vitamin D is indirectly related to cardiovascular health. Truth is that by maintaining good levels of vitamin D our bones would get strengthened, feel relieved from stress, in healthy weight management plus a few factors that would lead to an increase in the blood pressure in us.

Sleep apnea:

It is necessary that we must sleep well for atleast 6 to 8 hours. Sleeping less than 6 hours might lead to issues like stress, mood swings, hormonal changes and our overall health etc. Our blood pressure would get affected with sleep. When we do not sleep well or deprived of sleep then the BP would increase in us and this would impact metabolic health etc. Finally, this would lead to heart issues.

High consumption of processed foods:

The world we live in is fast paced and with not much time available many of us depend on processed foods and packaged foods etc. By eating fast foods,  chips, sausages, cookies, canned soups etc, we might consume excess salt or sodium. This would result in increased blood pressure. From the surrounding tissues of the blood vessels, more salt in the blood pulls water and this could lead to more blood pressure due to the increase in the blood volume. By eating processed foods, we might put on weight and due to this it might be difficult for the heart to pump blood. It is recommended to eat 2300 mg of sodium per day.

Social isolation:

This could also be a factor that could increase the blood pressure in us. It is okay when we have short term isolation and it would not lead to stress. If the isolation is prolonged or for a longer duration of time, then stress hormones would be released. This could result in depression and it might lead to an increase in blood pressure.

Common medications:

These days, many of us take medicines to become free from health issues as quickly as possible. It is true that certain non-steroidal anti-inflammatory medicines would result in increased blood pressure in us.
