Many people have gone to their hometowns to celebrate Deepavali and these people are coming back to Chennai now.

To help them to come to Chennai easily without any issue, MTC or Metropolitan Transport Corporation has planned to operate 300 additional buses from places like Tambaram, koyambedu and Central railway stations etc. For the Deepavali festival, many drivers of cabs and autos have left Chennai to their native place and there are fewer autos and taxis now in Chennai.

This has led to huge demand at the transit points and the drivers have been fleecing those returning back to Chennai thru trains and buses. It is really shocking to note that at Perungalathur junction autos demand Rs 200 for a short distance and Rs 500 for dropping off passengers within the city limits. To get ready and go to the offices on time, many people are rushing to Chennai now. Now, the shortage of local suburban trains has increased the plight of many commuters.

In this critical situation, MTC buses are the only hope for many commuters and nearly 100 MTC buses have been planned to Tambaram, Perungalathur etc and Koyambedu bus terminus etc.

For the next 1 week, another 120 MTC buses would be plying from 3am in the morning to the connecting railway stations with major bus stands and important transit hubs belonging to Chennai and its outskirts. Point is that around 85 MTC buses would be operated as night services and they would transport passengers across the city until the demand reduces in these locations. This was according to MD of MTC, Mr. A. Abraham

To clear the extra rush in places like Trichy, Villupuram and Kumbakonam etc, additional 170 buses have been divided by the MTC. Following requests, TNSTC Trichy would be running buses from Pondicherry, Tindivanam and  Thiruvannamalai etc to Chennai.
