Alert: Vehicle Drivers: Traffic changes in Chennai Metro City!

Following the recent incessant rains and stagnation of water in certain locations, the Chennai Traffic Police has made certain traffic changes and released the same.

With the recent onset of the Northeast Monsoon Rainy Season, there has been incessant rain in Chennai Metro City and suburban areas. As such, there is stagnant water in 2 subways and a few other roads! As such, some traffic changes have been made in the city:

In a notification released by the Department of Chennai Metro City Traffic Police, it mentioned:

The status of Chennai Metro City Traffic following the onset of the Northeast Monsoon Rainy Season:

Due to the inundation of rainwater certain subways are closed:

  • Ganesapuram Subway
  • Rangarajapuram subway

Due to stagnant water, certain traffic routes are changed:

  • Ambedkar College Road is closed between Perambur Highway Junction up to Ganesapuram subway – closed for traffic.
  • Rangarajapuram subway is meant only for 2-wheelers.  However, due to stagnant water, now 2-wheelers are also banned on this subway!

Changes in traffic made due to flooding:

  • The vehicle from Chennai moving up to Ganesapuram subway are diverted via Puliyanthoppu High Road Ambedkar College Junction to move via Gandhi Nagar Round-Tana to Basin Bridge Road and to move to Vyasarpadi subway.
  • The vehicles moving from Puliyanthoppu Road towards Chennai City via Ganesapuram subway are diverted to Ambedkar College Road, Perambur Junction to Perambur overbridge, Jamaliya Road, Otteri and Ayanavaram.
  • The vehicles proceeding via the Rangarajapuram subway are not allowed via the subway but to move via the Rangarajapuram overbridge.
  • Chennai Metro City Buses Traffic changes
  • All the Chennai Metro City buses which move from the city to the Ganesapuram subway are diverted via Puliyanthoppu High Road, Strakans Road junction via Otteri to Perambur.
  • Chennai Metro City buses which move from Puliyanthoppu to Chennai City via the Ganesapuram subway are diverted via Ambedkar College Road, Perambur Highway Junction and move via Perambur over the bridge to Jamaliya Road to Otteri and Ayanavaram.
