The Chennai Metro City Department of Traffic Police has informed that due to the incessant heavy rains and the resultant rainwater flooding, 2 subways – Rangarajapuram Subway & Ganesapuram subway – are closed!

A notification released in this regard by the Chennai Metro City Department of Traffic Police mentions:

"Due to the northeast monsoon rainy season, as of 8.00 AM today (Wednesday 2nd November), due to flooding created by incessant rains, the Rangarajapuram and Ganesapuram subways are closed!

Further, the Rangarajapuram subway, apart from the flooding water, is full of mud & muck! As such, 2-wheelers are not allowed in this subway! Also, as the Ganesapuram subway is full of stagnant water, vehicles are NOT allowed to enter!

As such traffic is changed for the vehicles, instead of Rangarajapuram subway, to use the Rangarajapuram over the bridge. The vehicles which move via the Ganesapuram subway are diverted via Puliyanthoppu Highway, Gandhi Nagar Round Tana, and Basin Bridge. For the vehicles entering hear from other areas, they are diverted to move via Perambur Highway and Murasoli Maran Bridge!
