Chennai to get 140 primary health centres

Chennai may soon get 140 modernised urban primary health centres under the National Urban Health Mission .

The health centres are likely to act as evening clinics that will offer free healthcare to women and children.The evening clinics will benefit more than 18 lakh residents belonging to the weaker sections in the 2,500 slums in the city.

The Centre will fund 75 per cent of the mission and the rest will be by the State. The Chennai Corporation will be fully involved in the commissioning of the primary healthcare facilities in 426 sq. km. of the city.
