Mukesh Ambani, Chairman and Managing Director, Reliance Industries, inaugurated the KM College of Music and Technology founded by music director A.R. Rahman on Friday.
Mr Ambani described AR Rahman as a legend who exceeded his expectations by hundred times. "Whenever I think of innovation, I think of you" he added.
Speaking at the launch, Rahman said the institute was a step to recognise music as a serious art form, and liberate it from the trappings of cinematic entertainment.
The new 27,000 sq.ft facility will also accommodate an orchestra school for underprivileged children, apart from housing Rahman’s music school KM Music Conservatory, set up in 2008.
The college is affiliated with the Middlesex University in London. With faculty from around the world, it offers a range of full time and part time courses on classical music. The college`s studio also offers high-tech facilities for film and band recordings and sound design.
