Those travelling by autos, taxis and omni buses in Chennai and TN might have to shell more money soon!!

The TN govt has issued an order to increase the fresh permit and renewal fees up to 177% for autos, taxis and for omni buses etc. Point is that the penalty for violating this rule has also been increased now.

The increased fuel rates plus steep hike in the penalty for violation of traffic rules have been creating lots of issues for the auto drivers now. Only after paying the road tax, a person would be able to renew the vehicle permit. It is now brought out that under the new slab one has to pay Rs 6500 plus bribe money to the brokers at RTOs for the work. Therefore, the additional financial burden would fall on the passengers only. This was as per Mr. S. Balasubramanian, state president of CITUs auto union.

It is learnt that other states and UT like Puducherry etc have refused to hike the renewal fee or fine as per the guidelines of Union transport Ministry. Truth is that TN that has already been generating enough revenue through vehicle registrations and taxes etc has increased the vehicle permit fee and renewal amount without even taking into account auto drivers welfare.

Mr. A. Afzal, general secretary of TN Bus Owners Association explained that the Centre has begun issuing  AITP or All India Tourist Permit for commercial vehicles online valid across India. The bitter truth is that TN hasn`t yet allowed the  vehicle owners to utilise this opportunity.

He spoke about how if TN allows the vehicle owners to apply for  AITP then the state could earn up to Rs 10 crores per year also.  He was unhappy that TN has gone ahead to increase the fees of state permits.
