Metro trains going one above another!! Incredible!!
The news that in a few years time the passengers travelling in metro phase-1 network in Chennai would be finding trains from phase-2 network about 6m to 10m below has been the subject of discussion for many now.
It must be noted that in localities like Nandanam, Kilpauk and Thousand Lights etc, the metro train phase-2 tunnels would be constructed below phase-1 passages. This was according to some officials belonging to CMRL or Chennai Metro Rail Limited. The passengers would have an unbelievable experience while travelling in the metro trains.
Sensational piece of information is that phase-1 metro trains would be operating while phase-2 tunneling work is underway in the above-mentioned locations in Chennai. Various measures would be taken to make sure that the operation of metro trains in phase 1 network doesn`t get affected.
The CMRL officers later revealed that at Kilpauk, Nandanam and inThousand Lights metro phase-1 project tunnels were built at depths of 18m to 20m underground. It is now mentioned that in phase-2 network the tunnels would be going up to 25m to 30m depth. Monitoring the tunneling operations carefully would be the need of the hour.
For this, a plan has been made now by the authorities of CMRL and the fact is that safety would not be compromised at any cost. Track parameters would be checked well. It is noteworthy that in the phase-1 project of 45km Kilpauk metro station falls on the Green line but Nandanam and 1000 Lights metro stations fall on the Blue line.
Point is that in the phase-2 network, Corridor 3 between Madhavaram and SIPCOT has got metro stations at Kilpauk and 1000 Lights and Corridor 4 between Light House and Poonamallee has got metro stations at Nandanam. For the construction of underground stretch in phase-2 of Corridor-3, tunneling operations have started at Madhavaram.
