Coins of denominations Rs. 10 & Rs. 20 were introduced by the Reserve Bank of India and have been in circulation throughout the country over the last few years!
Nevertheless, most citizens do favour the currency notes of Rs. 20 rather than the coin!
As regards the State of Tamil Nadu, apart from Chennai Metro City, the citizens of other districts do not prefer the coins of Rs. 10 & Rs. 20.
MOREOVER, RUMOURS ARE FLOATING THAT THE COIN OF Rs. 10 IS NOT VALID!
Though the Reserve Bank of India responded with categorical clarification on this issue, most citizens do not believe that these coins of Rs. 10 are valid!!
At the same time, their awareness programmes are conducted on this like the purchase of a bike paying in all coins!
However, there is reluctance among the public to receive coins of Rs. 10!!
Given the above situation, an important order has been released by the Transport Department of the Tamil Nadu State Government to the conductors! It is mentioned in this order that conductors MUST receive the coins of Rs. 10 & Rs. 20 if the passenger offered and issue the ticket.
