Devotees normally make their presence felt in huge numbers at the highly famous Palani Temple.

It is now said that an amount of Rs 73 crores would be used to construct a rope car and up to 1200 devotees would be able to travel in this rope car. Therefore, the devotees need not have to wait for a long time to have darshan. It is known that there are 6 houses or arupadai veedu for Lord Murugar namely, Thiruttani, Thiruparankundram, Palani, Thiruchendur,Swamimalai and Pazhamudircholai etc. Palani based Dhandayutha Swamy temple is the third house of Lord Murugar.

From several parts belonging to Tamil Nadu and from several other states across India, many people come to this temple for darshan. Thaipoosam and Panguni Uthiram are 2 important festivals and for that lakhs of devotees would visit the temple. To help the devotees to reach the temple located on the hill top,a winch is being operated from the west Griri Road and a rope care from south Giri Road.

In the entire TN, in this Palani temple only rope car were first installed for the devotees. In 2004, the rope car first began operating here and the total journey time now is just 3 minutes. While going up the hill, only 15 people can travel and while coming down just 13 people can only travel at a time. In one hour, only 400 devotees would be able to travel in the present rope car.

Especially on the weekends, Karthigai, Shasti etc, devotees would have to wait for a long time  to travel by the rope car. Truth is that the current rope car here cannot be operated in the windy or rainy seasons etc. There has been a huge demand for the second rope car here.

After the TN govt issued permission to build a second rope car here at a cost of Rs 73.83 crores, a Chennai based private firm has been working with  France based company to construct a second rope car. In this second ropecar, it would be possible for 1200 devotees to travel in one hour. Even during the rains or heavy winds, the second rope car could be operated easily.
