A flyover is being constructed for about 7.5km linking Madurai and Natham. The latest news is that this flyover is 95 percent completed and in the month of January 2023,it would be inaugurated by the PM of India Mr. Narendra Modi.

It must be recalled that in September 2018 the National Highways Commission under Bharat Mala Project began widening of a 35km stretch of 4 lane road from Madurai to Tallakulam IOC office up to Natham at a cost of Rs 1028 crores. A flyover of 7.5km is being constructed at a cost of Rs 612crores on this road from Tallakulam in Madurai to Marani Kulukku near Oomachikulam.

It must be noted that the flyover is being built to reduce the travel distance from Madurai to Chennai, Trichy etc and to reduce the traffic congestion in the city. It is worthy to note that this flyover is supported by 268 giant pillars with a strong foundation of 150 feet each. To connect the bridge between the piers, concrete girders are fit horizontally.

The flyover construction work that has been going for the last 4 years is now 95% over. By January 2023,the entire work would get completed and would be inaugurated by the Indian prime minister.
