The tax revision by the electricity department in TN has made them get Rs 1000 crores now as revenue. On Tuesday, Mr. Senthil Balaji mentioned that the electricity bill generated for the electricity consumption charges has increased by RS 1000 crores per month after the tax revision. He threw light on how that amount was still less when compared to what the department had expected.
It must be taken into account that the EB had expected an additional amount of Rs 19000 cr annually. The withdrawal of charges from certain sectors have led to the collection of Rs 1000 crores per month now. The minister was busy taking part in a review meeting on free service connections of 50000 farmers. Till now, 34134 orders have been issued and the remaining would be issued before the Pongal festival.
He then spoke about how the consumers must make use of the special camps to link their Aadhaar number with the electricity connections before 31st of December. Out of a total of 2.67 crores of service connections, just 1.2 crores connections have been linked to aadhaar number till now.
The installation of smart meters has been the reason for the delay to implement monthly reading of meters for consumption charges.
