Focussing on the startups and innovations around the Kuthambakkam bus terminus in the Thirumazhisai new town, the CMDA or Chennai Metropolitan Development Authority is planning to develop a 15 minute city concept.

It is noteworthy that 15 minute city is a concept popularised after 2016 concentrating on the planned area where the residents would be able to reach shops, amenities, services, places of work etc  by walking or cycling or by public transport in just 15 minutes.

According to an official from CMDA, the plan for Thirumazhisai new town would focus on the startups, innovations and research and development etc.

Information gathered is that the minister for CMDA Mr. Sekharbabu, Housing and Urban development secretary Apoorva have begun inspecting various facilities including Kuthambakkam bus terminus before pursuing the objections and suggestions to the notification of the villages for new town development in the place.

It must be recalled that on 11th of November TN govt the Thirumazhisai new town development plan covering many villages like Thirumazhisai, Neduncheri, Udayavarkoil, Thukanampattu, Ariamarandhanallur, Chembarambakkam,  Kuthambakkam, Narasingapuram,  Pavada Rajapuram, Vellavedu, Nasarathpettai,  Varadharajapuram, Kilmanambedu, Kollappancheri, Palanjur and Pidarithangal.

Point to be noted is that any individual or local authority etc could submit objections or suggestions to the govt in 2 months from the date of publication of notification on the TN Government Gazette. It is now said that the objections and suggestions would be given importance before the govt goes ahead regarding the development of the new town. The new town would include metro rail, well designed roads, public transport with superb last mile connectivity etc.
