Integral Coach Factory or ICF in Chennai is making many heads turn now!!
It is well known to us that ICG has been commercially producing indigenously built semi high speed trains. Now, for the first time ever, ICF has rolled out 2 Vande Bharat trains in just a month.
In the beginning of this December month, ICF dispatched the first VB rake to the South East Central railway zone for operation between Bilaspur and Nagpur. Soon, the second train in this month would be rolled out to the Eastern railways for operations between Howrah and New Jalpaiguri before Saturday.
It must be taken into account that the train to Eastern railways would be the 7th one to be produced by ICF till now. Recently, ICF made news due to raw material shortage, the main supply of bogies from Ukraine.
The Vande Bharat train is scheduled to be dispatched on 22nd or 23rd of December 2022 to Howrah (Eastern railways). On 30th December, PM of India Mr. Narendra Modi would be inaugurating at Howrah. This was mentioned by a circular that was issued by deputy chief engineer at ICF Chennai on 21st of December. A list of 50 staff for maintaining VB express trains has been prepared by the Eastern railways.
As per a senior official from ICF, the spurt in the raw material supply has been the reason for ICF manufacturing 2 rakes in this month. He hinted that the supply of raw materials has been inconsistent and additional supply of raw materials has been received by ICF for December. This has led to the manufacture of 2 rakes now. He concluded that there is no clarity regarding whether enough raw material would be available in the next month.
It must be recalled that the supply of bogies( an important component of semi high speed trains that would reach speeds of 160kmph) was affected because the vendor in Ukraine took a long route by road via Poland and then by sea to dispatch consignment to ICF in chennai. In the current fiscal beginning 1st of April 2022,ICF managed to manufacture just 4 rakes( 16 coaches) of Vande Bharat trains.
