In the future, a new plant for the fermented products would be present at Aavin dairy in Kakkalur near Chennai. Now, work is going on at full speeds. An amount of Rs 6 crores would be spent for this new plant and it would have a capacity to handle 10000 litres per shift.
This new plant would be producing curd varieties like cup curd, lassi, buttermilk and paneer etc. This was according to some sources belonging to TN Cooperative Milk Producers Federation whose popular brand is Aavin. The building construction work is nearing completion and the equipment is being installed.
The dairy at Ambattur has only got fermented products plant now in Chennai and it has got a capacity of 20000 litres. It covers Chennai city and its surrounding places.
It was later revealed by an official from Aavin that if the products were available in the market then automatically demand would be created. He threw light on how there are many un-served places where Aavin could supply the customers. The sale of milk products would be more than that of the sale of milk alone. By this, the farmers would be benefited to a huge extent.
According to another source from Aavin, work completion plus trial running would be carried out before the summer season next year. Truth is that such plants which would produce seasonal products would operate 100% for 6 months and at 50% for the next 6 months.
The products would be supplied to more parlours. Information collected is that the Aavin plant at Kakkalur in the Thiruvallur district has got a capacity to process one lakh litre of milk per day. Recently, equipment for this Kakkalur dairy was replaced. It must be noted that this dairy is one of the 4 dairies that supplies milk to the outskirts of the city.
