After being under control for many months, the Coronavirus cases have started to increase now. In this scenario, many now have started to postpone their international travel holiday plans due to the fear of Covid restrictions etc.
The inbound leisure travel might be affected from January 2023 onwards and this could be due to the fact that India has already announced that RT PCR tests would be carried out compulsorily on those passengers from countries like China, Hong Kong, Japan, South Korea,, Singapore and Thailand etc. Indians who arrive from these countries would also be subjected to RT PCR tests.
There are many people who have booked holidays during the Pongal and they are now requesting for re-scheduling. On the other hand, those people who have been planning their trips have decided to wait for some more time. This was highlighted by the travel and tour operators. It is known that Thailand and Singapore are 2 most popular holiday spots for many Chennaites.
A Chennai resident who had planned to go to countries like Vietnam and Cambodia has now postponed his trip. He spoke about how he wanted to go to these countries in March and how it would be risky as there would be testing and quarantines etc. Truth is that many people hesitate to go to the places if there was testing because they would have to spend Rs 1500 to Rs 3000 for testing and would have to spend further in a hotel for quarantine if tested positive.
Chennai Metro Travels Mr. Basheer Ahmed expressed his views. He spoke about how travel had revived and many people have booked to travel to south east Asian nations and far east during the upcoming Pongal holidays. While returning back, these travellers would face many issues as they would have to take a pre-departure test plus their details on Air Suvidha etc.
Inbound travel would get affected if countries like Thailand, Malaysia and Singapore etc begin to test the people from India. Now, these countries just insist on vaccination certificates only. Re-emergence of Covid would be a hassle for the travellers as per Mr. Arul Lazaren of United Travels.
