Be aware of this important road stretch in Chennai that has been making lives of many tough and causing many accident deaths etc

Travelling along the 32km road stretch between Tambaram and Puzhal via Maduravoyal in Chennai is highly risky!!
It is really shocking to mention here that this road stretch has led to nearly 150 road accident deaths in the last 6 years. Just a couple of days back, a techie was killed while travelling along this road.
Truth is that NHAI or National Highways Authority of India that collects more than rs 100 crores from the toll plazas present on the Chennai Bypass Road has failed to maintain this important accident causing stretch. The presence of pot holes & open drains along the stretch is a nightmare for many motorists.
A resident from Mogappair mentioned that nearly 15 educational institutions were present in the locality catering around 20000 students. He added that bad roads would make the school kids travelling in their bicycles to skid and fall inside the open drains.
In September 2022, a contract was awarded to a private agency to fix potholes and for patchwork at Rs 8.8 crores but the rains have delayed the work. This was pointed out by a NHAI official. He explained that the majority of open drains were closed and closing the rest would get completed soon.
The absence of streetlights on the stretch has been creating issues for many drivers while driving along the sharp curves and despite complaining several times no action has been taken till now. This was brought out by a truck driver.
It must be noted that the documents show Rs 23 crore was sanctioned for installation of 2133 street lights in the month of September. The bitter truth is that nothing has progressed. Most accidents at this stretch were due to over speeding only and this was highlighted by a senior officer from NHAI. He agreed that there has been a delay in carrying out the patch works.
