For metro train underground construction, 2 flyovers located at places like Adyar and at Radhakrishnan Salai-Royapettah Junction would be demolished. These flyovers would be re-constructed after 4 years.
It is learnt that at Adyar a new flyover would be built parallel to the flyover that would be demolished. As a result, the traffic would not get affected before starting the work. Point is that the demolished part would be rebuilt and the flyover would be made four lanes. The part of the existing flyover would be demolished and rebuilt later at the RK Salai.
It is worth mentioning here that the 2 underground metro stations would be part of 118.9km phase-2 corridor 3 from Madhavaram Milk Colony in north Chennai to SIPCOT Siruseri in south Chennai.
It was explained by an official from CMRL that at Adyar junction a portion of the flyover or an arm that would be pulled down would be replaced by a 2lane arm to divert traffic. As the foundation would come in the way of Adyar depot underground station, it would be demolished. Truth is that the flyover links Adyar with Besant Nagar and Thiruvanmiyur. Important information is that at RK Salai about 50percent of flyovers from RK. Salai- Royapettah Jn towards Royapettah would be demolished.
