Onion soaring prices really brought tears in the eyes of chennaites. Flood and shortfall onion production were considered as the major reason for this price hike. Now the rainfall has been reduced and more stocks of onions are coming to koyambedu market. Recently, around 55 trucks of onions from AP, Karnataka and Maharashtra have come to Chennai vegetable market so the price of onions has come down to Rs.55 /Kg. The market is expecting more loads which will eventually result in more reduction of the onion price.
Onion is an essential vegetable which is used in almost all south indian recipes . Rs. 100 to Rs.50 is really consoling to chennaites.
